Amanda Windred
Biography
Amanda Windred is an Australian dramatic soprano and Zwischenfach artist based in Melbourne, recognised for the weight, richness and expressive depth of her voice. Her instrument is defined by a dark, resonant timbre, a strong vocal core and the capacity to sustain long, arching lines with clarity and emotional intensity — qualities that place her naturally within the great Strauss, Wagner, Verdi, Britten and Puccini repertoire.
Trained at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music (University of Sydney) and the Queensland Conservatorium of Music (Griffith University), Amanda has deepened her craft through the Lisa Gasteen National Opera School, the Berlin Opera Academy, the Miami Music Festival, and the Dramatic Voices Berlin program, where she prepared the title role in Elektra in 2024. Her international debut came in 2016 as Mrs Grose in The Turn of the Screw at the Miami Music Festival.
A 2023–2025 Richard Divall Emerging Artist with Melbourne Opera, Amanda’s recent seasons have been among her most active. Engagements have included Marcellina in The Marriage of Figaro and La Badessa in Suor Angelica (Melbourne Opera), Vava in Melbourne, Cheremushki (Victorian Opera), Principal Soprano in The Sea (Forest Collective), and Helen in Fat Pig (Forest Collective/BK Opera). She has also performed as a concert soloist with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Queensland Symphony Orchestra, and Willoughby Symphony Orchestra, and covered principal roles at Opera Australia (Turandot) and Melbourne Opera.
Her 2025 season included Mrs Grose in The Turn of the Screw (IOpera), Lehrbuben in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg (Melbourne Opera), and cover for Lady Macbeth in Macbeth (BK Opera).
In 2026, Amanda performs as a soloist in BK Opera’s 10th Anniversary Concert (July), Ines in Melbourne Opera’s production of Il Trovatore, covers Isolde in Tristan und Isolde with BK Opera (October), and joins Forest Collective in concert (November).
